Simple DOES NOT equal Insignificant!
Leaders don’t look for recognition from others
Leaders look for others to recognize
Simon Sinek
Recognize is defined as
Be aware of the significance of
Show appreciation for
Acknowledge
So often recognition is given to a top outcome. Highest sales, Highest percentage of growth, highest customer satisfaction rating, Highest number of new accounts and on and on.
As leaders, we need to broaden our scope of metrics to determine where recognition can and should be given.
Let’s talk about recognizing a simple thing that is significant and has the potential to impact culture AND performance.
Kindness – so SIMPLE and so UNDERRATED!
Showing a coworker a program shortcut you just discovered that will help them too
Asking to fill anyone’s water bottle while you’re filling yours
Offering help to a coworker to complete a time sensitive task
Sharing your food in the lunch room
Cheering someone on to reach their goal
Bringing in treats voluntarily
Complimenting a teammate
When people are happy and feel appreciated they are more engaged in their job. More engagement results in higher performance, achievement, job satisfaction and less absenteeism.
When was the last time you thanked someone for being kind to a coworker? Did you let someone know, “I saw what you just did, you’re awesome and I appreciate your kindness”?
Recognizing positive behavior is a sure-fire way to have it repeated!
Recognize POSITIVITY
Recognize KINDNESS
Recognize HELPFULNESS
