Becoming a Transformational Leader…the journey
Do you want to be leader? An effective leader? A transformational leader?
Are you prepared to put in the work to attain the knowledge, skills and emotional intelligence to become one?
Are you willing to be patient as the years go by and you still find yourself learning what it means to be a transformational leader?
Do you CARE about people? Do you LOVE to help people grow? Are you committed to making sure each person is in the absolute best spot to achieve their goals?
IF YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT AND HAVE EMPATHY FOR PEOPLE YOU WILL NOT BECOME A TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER
The best leaders are ones motivated by their desire to help others. You have to have heart to be a leader. You have to want to help others. You need to want to serve others.
Inspiring and helping others to be their best self is the desired outcome. That’s your fuel. It requires tough conversations, regular feedback, clear expectations and openness.
You must spend time making sure people feel safe and that they belong. This means interacting and getting to know each person and being observant.
When you assign tasks, you need to make sure the person is actually trained to do the job. You need to support them in it.
You need to be the calm in the storm, the safe port that shelters and helps regroup. This means a willingness to accept the responsibility and pressure that comes with the territory.
Being a leader is hard work and requires sacrifices. You must give your time & energy willingly.
You can become a leader. The skills can all be learned. The question is this; Do you want to learn? Are you willing to make the sacrifices? Are you willing to put yourself last?
A transformational leader has a team of people that are not only happily engaged and feel they belong but are extremely productive too.
As a leader your actions carry great weight so marrying them with your words is vital. Be consistent, honest, loving, open and caring and your team will feel safe and be happy to tell you exactly how they feel, where they need help and why they love their job.
Leadership is incredibly rewarding, terrifying, exhilarating, frustrating and exciting when you do it right. You expend huge energy giving to others but what you get in return when you see them grow before your very eyes and go on to succeed is worth it.
