Be YOU, Do YOU!
I can be overwhelming for some! I can be too opinionated for others! (the neighborhood kids were threatened with Rhonda’s Bootcamp) I can be too colorful for some! I am definitely TOO LOUD for some! (my voice is capable of crashing through walls and leaping over tall buildings!)
HOWEVER
My smile isn’t too big for anyone! My hugs are revered because I mean them! My cheerleading skills are legendary! (no, not the high kick, back flip type of cheerleading) My solution driven, and positive mindset are valued and appreciated by all.
Yes, this is all based on feedback I’ve been given over the years! Point is, none of us is perfect. There will always be challenging aspects of personalities you work with but that doesn’t have to result in conflict or annoyance. You can check out some testimonials here. I have a wooden block on my desk that says, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine’ and I do.
I’m me. I like me.
I know that my teams over the years have “put up” with aspects of my personality because they knew my heart was solidly in the right place. They knew that my goal was to help them in any way I could be to successful. They knew that I would fight for them. They also knew they could say anything to me (in a respectful way) and I wouldn’t take offense or get angry.
People meeting me today have the privilege of a “toned down” Rhonda!! Not because of negative feedback, but because of maturing, understanding nuances, and learning the subtleties of effective communication. I’m still me, just a bit more aware of how I present information based on how the other person best receives it.
I believe that everyone should be encouraged to be themselves. Accept the quirks, it’s what makes us such awesomely unique individuals. Stop hoping, wishing, praying that someone will change just so you can feel more comfortable. Why should they have to? Having said that, we do need to be mindful and respectful of others.
There is no one YOUER THAN YOU!!
Here is my desk, yep, that’s me, LOTS OF COLOR!
