Appreciation is Overrated...NOT!
We often struggle to make sure the people we love know how much we appreciate them.
For some reason, we think they should just know! We thank them in our minds time and time again. We think of them often and remember their words of wisdom just at the right time to help us in our current situation.
We truly believe they know they are appreciated. They don’t know. They won’t know unless we express that appreciation outwardly.
We can express it in our mind constantly…but, THEY WILL NEVER KNOW!
The same struggle happens in the office. The team we love and care for need to hear and see how much we appreciate them.
Your team needs to know that you appreciate their contribution. I’m talking about everything they contribute. Watch for the subtle things. We can get so focused on the “tasks” assigned that we miss all of the other ways contributions happen.
What about these contributions,
Cheerful morning hello
Helping a teammate with their task
Staying late
Coming in early
Can do attitude
Peacemaker
Positive personality
Willingness to share skills & knowledge
Bringing treats for the team
Train yourself to speak or show appreciation in the moment. Your memory isn’t as good as you think it is! You will forget.
Thanking your team should be something you do on a daily basis. Speak words of appreciation or take an action that clearly sends the message.
We all want to KNOW we matter, that how we conduct ourselves is appreciated.
Start now, right this minute, to make sure everyone on your team knows they are appreciated!
