GROW my little ones GROW!
Commitment to growth
Are you in? Prepared to stay the course? Be open to flexible thinking?
It takes time to become an effective leader. Your commitment to learning and growing is admirable as long as you add to that patience.
The same way your team is NOT going to gel and become great overnight, you’re not going to become the most effective leader overnight either.
As long as you stay committed though, you put yourself in a great place to become your best.
What does it mean to work on yourself?
It is so easy to throw out the glib comment, “Well that’s just me, it’s who I am” as an excuse or reason for what we said or how we acted.
Sorry, that’s not going to fly!! We all need to know our audience and present information and actions that speak to them and don’t cause walls to be erected. I know, there will always be someone offended but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to find the BEST words or actions.
Here are 2 areas of growth that are THE MOST IMPORTANT in my book.
Emotional Intelligence is so important in our interaction with each other and worth working on.
Daniel Goleman - Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ
Travis Bradberry & Jean Greaves – Emotional Intelligence 2.0
Listening is a skill, a desire and a necessity! Simon Sinek, who I reference often, says we need to listen to UNDERSTAND not listen to reply. When you process what you hear, pause, collect your thoughts and then give a reasoned response you’re much more likely to get engagement in the conversation.
Mark Goulston – Just Listen
Listen to podcasts that expand your knowledge about lots of topics. Find out what the interests are of your team then learn something about it. Podcasts, YouTube and Google are fast and simple ways to search for information. If you have an avid cricket fan, learn something about the game so that you can talk about their passion.
Follow these people on IG and get great snippets of learning that will help your growth.
